inspiration

Since the end of the official Ultimate season, I have had a few extra hours of time available. Often, I use this time wisely to do homework or work on my thesis. Sometimes, I use it to bake. With the discovery of fondant, baking has taken on a whole new meaning. Sugar! First there were the cupcakes, then the birthday cake, and now this cake.

The cake itself is an orange cake, from the Moosewood Cookbook. The hidden frosting keeping the fondant on is also tinged with specks of orange rind. The theme for the decoration came from going through my cookie cutters. What else do you do with a dog and a fire hydrant?

Deb and I thought maybe we should send in pictures of our creations to the Ace of Cakes to let them know how they have inspired us. Then again, I don't know if they'd appreciate being the inspiration for a "dog peeing on a fire hydrant" cake.
