thunder bowl

I love thunderstorms. I especially like it when the storms blow in on Sundays when I don't have to go anywhere. I can just sit in my house wrapped up in a blanket reading and listening to the thunder and rain.

When I was little, my parents told me that thunder is the sound of God bowling. My grandparents told me it is the sound of God laughing. At one point, I was told it wasn't God, but the angels bowling. From then on, I used to imagine my dad as one of the angels up there throwing strikes (never gutter balls), and this made me less scared when the windows would shake with the sound of thunder.

I don't know at what age I stopped being afraid of thunderstorms and started liking them. It was probably sometime after I stopped being afraid of the dark, but before I got over my fear of falling and knocking all my teeth out. Whenever it was, it was many years prior to my time in Japan when I laughed at the college girls shrieking in terror at every peal of thunder.
