Hitomachi Kaikan, Kyoto - Appearing in the Houkin Association’s annual recital, foreigner Laura wowed a full auditorium of Japanese with her ability to play the koto and sing in Japanese at the same time. Several audience members were moved to tears by the performance, particularly her heartfelt rendition of the Okinawan song “Nada Sou Sou.” Although suffering from a head cold, Laura still managed to produce the pure ringing tones which are not often heard in traditional Japanese songs, much to the pleasure of her long time supporters. She has no plans of a repeat performance in the near future, but is willing to sing for her supper (home cooking only).
