It was a painful thing to be sleeping on the second story, because it meant we had to walk down stairs to go to the bathroom and eat. I was more sore after climbing that volcano than I had been after running the Boston Marathon. I do not jest.
We decided to take it easy and sit around doing nothing all day. I had a cucumber, egg, and cheese sandwich for breakfast and wandered slowly around the finca. The area immediately surrounding the buildings is filled with beautiful flowers and plants, lovingly watered and cared for. Just past that, however, the dry brush and grasses of cow and horse pastures stretches out toward the lake. I picked some hocotes, which are tiny green fruits eaten with salt or made into ice cream.
Lunch was chicken vegetable fried rice and tostones, the fried plantains I love so much. Afterward, we walked toward town to see if we couldn’t get any ice cream. Unfortunately, since the power had been out, no one had ice cream. We did find some coldish flavored rice milk, though, and I had the hocote flavor. We also bought a fresh pineapple for a snack later. On the way back, we stopped at a swimming hole to cool off. Above the pool, fifteen monkeys were taking a nap.
So we went back to take a nap too. I love hammocks.
