In exactly one week and one day, my good friend, Anna Royer, will be running the Boston Marathon with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for the second year in a row. Isn’t she amazing? I think so.
Anna and I started running together many years ago in Japan, when we trained for the Kyoto City Half Marathon together. Since then, she has become a running fiend, running the Boston Marathon twice already (once with me!), and getting ready for her third. I, on the other hand, sit at home and eat cookies.
What is even more incredible about Anna is that she is running these races not for personal glory, but to raise money to fight blood cancers such as leukemia, which took my father’s life when I was only five years old. Anna is running in memory of him and my friend Jason’s grandmother, whose names she has proudly displayed on her running singlet.
If you haven’t already, I strongly urge you to visit Anna’s website and donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This not only helps Anna fulfill her pledge of raising $3000, but also goes toward the great cause of eliminating cancers of the blood. And even if you can’t donate, send an email of encouragement to my great, super, wonderful, fantastic, amazing friend Anna for doing something so challenging in order to help others.
Ganbette, Anna!
