wasting time

When you don't have a car, there are two options for long distance travel: Greyhound or Amtrak. Both are inconvenient and more expensive than they should be. One must choose the lesser of two evils, however, and I took Amtrak home to visit my family for the holiday weekend. It was 45 minutes late leaving, and 2.5 hours late arriving to my destination.

Despite this fact, I took Amtrak again on the way back. I took a different route, though, and my first leg was a bus that took me to Normal, IL. I had a two hour layover, so I walked around the town and found a student run gallery (Normal is the home of Illinois State Univ). The gallery was having a "collage" theme, and invited passersby to make their own collages and hang them on the walls. I had time, so I made one. Who can guess the inspiration for mine?

And then I went back to the station, where they told me the train was going to be at least 2 hours late. I called Sam to come pick me up (Normal is only an hour from Springfield) and got my money back from Amtrak. The moral of the story: only take Amtrak if you have plenty of free time in your schedule.
