three day vacations

Tomorrow is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It is the only holiday of the spring semester, excepting spring break, that Indiana University takes off of school. In fact, it's the only non break related holiday which IU recognizes. Washington's birthday (Feb. 18th), Veterans Day (Nov. 11), and Columbus Day (Oct. 13) are all ignored.

In Japan, National holidays were created in order to require workers to take a break from their ridiculous schedules. It seems like we've gone the opposite way and figured out ways to skip Nationals holidays so people will work more. Why? What's wrong with a little free vacation day every once and a while, huh?
