interference on the field

We were playing ultimate on a field on campus today when all of a sudden a deer bounded down the sidelines. We watched as it crossed the entire field and disappeared into some trees at the other end. Just as we were commenting on how crazy that was, another one came by and did the same thing. Someone commented how lucky we were that they weren't being chased by a mountain lion. I just wonder what prompted their romp in the first place.
