Some blogs have those sidebars where the author can update everyone with what music they're listening to or what book they're reading. I don't have that for two reasons. First, I have the horrible tendency to find an album I like and then listen to it and only it for two months until I find something else I love. Second, I'm in grad school. The books I read would in no way be interesting to someone not in my field, and I don't have time to read fun things.
But today, I'm gonna toss out of few of these categories, anyway.
I'm listening to:
The Soundtrack from Juno
- I saw Juno when it first came out, and have been listening to the soundtrack non-stop since then. I love Kimya Dawson's songs. They are random and wonderful.
Devendra Banhart, particularly the album "Rejoicing in the Hands"
- My favorite song on this album is "The Body Breaks." I just got his new album, but haven't had time to listen to it. I'm sure it is wonderful, though.
I'm reading:
The Tale of Genji
-Yes, I'm reading it for school and it is the topic of my thesis, but if you've never experienced the full 1000 pages of Genji's affairs, I strongly encourage you to do so. You might be tempted by the 150 page abridged versions, but they are nothing. If you don't have much knowledge of Heian Japan, I recommend a companion reader "Murasaki Shikibu: The Tale of Genji" by Richard Bowring. It will help you understand the things that get me excited when reading this tale.
I'm eating:
Seaweed
-I just went to the Asian market and got some wakame to put in my miso soup and some hijiki to make a seaweed salad.
