Sam and I walked over to the Co-op a few minutes ago to grab some ingredients for a late dinner. As we were browsing the produce section, an employee caught our eye and came over to talk to us.
Looking at Sam, he said, "I just wanted to say that, um, we here have a story about you. " Sam smiled encouragingly. "I just moved from Chicago, and in Chicago we have a lot of bike messengers. It is said that the longer a bike messenger's beard, the longer he has been a bike messenger and the better his biking skills. Based on that and the size of your beard, there's a rumor going around that you ride a unicycle."
And that, my friends, is how facial hair earns you a place in local lore.
