Once your 21st birthday has passed, you pretty much have nine years of "eh" birthdays. Sure, last year I tried to make a big deal out of the "half a century" birthday, but really, it's not a major event. At least that's what I thought until this weekend. I do believe my 26th birthday has been my best birthday since I turned eighteen.
In reviewing the picture of Deb and I and my birthday cake below (which, by the way, we made and decorated and was wonderful), I was reminded of my birthday two years ago, when I was still in Japan. In many ways it was similar - I baked my own cake and invited a few friends to come over and eat it with me. Of course, finicky microwave/ovens, an unheated house, and wishes of "O-tanjoubi, omedetou!" don't fit in the comparison. But then again, neither do crowded bars, playing hoop shots, and hanging out with lots of friends.
Thanks to those of you who read this and came out to help me celebrate my birthday. And thanks go those of you who sent me well-wishes, either by email or facebook.
It was so good!

Oops. I am not that old. "Quarter of a century." No old head here!
