In the U.S. it is impolite to talk while chewing your food. In Japan, it’s okay to stuff your mouth with rice, fish, and noodles and proceed to tell a story, as long as you place your hand in front of your mouth to spare your audience a nasty view. Unfortunately, this little courtesy doesn’t help with translating the garbled sentences.
