Karaoke with the Family is an experience that crosses three generations and one country. The parents sang enka from the sixties, I sang popular Japanese songs from five years ago, and the teenagers sang this week’s Top Ten chart. Of course, there were the obligatory Beatles songs and a few from the Carpenters thrown in, because everyone knew them. My American contribution was pretty much a flashback to high school.
Ace of Base - The Sign
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Madonna - Like a Prayer
Weezer - Island in the Sun (okay, not really high school…)
Ricky Martin - Livin’ La Vida Loca
I was tempted to try some Brittany or Backstreet Boys just for the heck of it, but I decided against it. I am quite certain that no one else would get the humor.
