ahoy, pirate-san

Last night before bed I was sorting through some old Japanese class notes. I happened across fun dialogues like, “Asking for permission,” “Visiting a Japanese home,” and “The Kansai Dialect.”

When my mother woke me up this morning, I realized that I had been having a dream about Pirates of the Caribbean in which everyone was speaking Japanese. Imagine Johnny Depp speaking in Kansai-ben like a tipsy salaryman while leaning precariously close to a man with no tongue. “Oi, Cotton-san! Wakarehen no?”
