Breakfast menu on the beach:
vegetarian omelet
freshly squeezed naranja (orange) juice
Late morning beverages on the beach:
banana con leche (banana milkshake)
pina colada
el Macua
*We were serenaded by two men with guitars. Leslie asked them to sing the most conspicuous song ever, “Pel de mais” which means “hair of corn,” which is a song about a Nicaraguan man lamenting that his golden-haired American girlfriend is going back to the States.
Lunch on the beach:
chicken fingers
french fries
Tona
And then we left the beautiful beach and returned to Managua by swerving bus and speeding taxi. We got back just in time to go watch Lenin, who was playing percussion with a visiting group of women from Martinique at the French Cultural Center. It was a rhythmic evening. Afterwards, we walked down the hill to Ali Baba, a mideastern bar that served hummus and falafal. A year ago, Leslie had taken belly-dancing classes there, and they were playing highlights of her concert on the tv in the bar. Unfortunately, we only got to see Leslie in the background of one dance.
