sidenote: definitions

Since it was storming outside, I thought I’d look up the many ways of saying “lightning” in Japanese, in case I ever wanted to get a tattoo of the kanji on my arm. My dictionary gives the word in Japanese, and then an example sentence in Japanese and its translation into English. I went through inazuma 稲妻 (lightning), raikou 雷光 (thunderbolt), and finally inabikari 稲光. The first definition listed for inabikari is inazuma. The second is “to lighten.” The example sentence - “It thundered and lightened.” Now, grammatically speaking, this could work. But I don’t know how many crazy looks I’d get if I said, “Did you hear those storms? It thundered and lightened all day!”
