Apparently, American Idol will be holding auditions for their next season soon. How do I know? Not because I watch religiously, no. I know because the local Fox station hosted the Illinois Idol competition today at the entertainment complex just down the street from my house. I don't know what they were offering as their prize, but whatever it was was enough to draw large crowds of pathetic hopefuls and their supportive parents.
Being that I was not able to participate due to the fact that I am not an Illinois resident, I avoided the registration lines this morning and went this afternoon to laugh at the auditions. The station had so graciously set up a room with a nice big screen where all of the supporters and gawkers could watch people make fools of themselves. I was not disappointed.
There were those high school girls who had so much make-up on it pulled their voices flat, the thugs trying so hard to keep their pants from falling down that they forgot the words to their songs, the nervous ones who didn't know what to do with the microphone, and the genuinely decent ones.
I don't know who won, and I don't care. But I hope that someone deserving got to ride in the SUV stretch limo that was sitting outside the building all day long.
