This weekend was the third annual Jax Hat Ultimate Tournament in Jacksonville, IL. About 80 people from all around Illinois and a few from Indiana gathered to play in the 95 degree heat. Luckily, the rain came during our third game, dropping the temperature by about ten degrees and rewetting our already sweat-soaked shirts with clean water.
My team, the Red Barons as we called our red shirt-clad selves, came out strong, winning the first game, but choked in two Universe Point games. Then we just got tired. We ended up winning one and losing four. Oh, well. Lime Green, a team with two of my Indiana friends, took the Championship with a record of five wins and no losses.
The games were followed up by the Gauntlet, an initiation event of which I had never heard where newbies run through lines of people throwing discs at them. I don't like this game. This was followed by throwing a disc at a pinata filled with candy and little bottles of alcohol. Those pinatas are tough to break.
The highlight came today, however, when I learned that my picture was on the front page of the Sports section of the Jacksonville Journal-Courier. I'm famous!
