can't get a word in edgewise

I have just been thoroughly chewed out by a squirrel. For what, I am not quite sure, but he was adamant that I was in the wrong and some soul-searching would be in order before forgiveness could be granted.

For five minutes he glared at me from the tree just off my porch, chiding energetically while emphasizing his points with agitated flicks of his fluffy tail. Once, I thought he had finished, but he just moved to a lower branch and started in on me again.

He left in a harrumph. I'm not sure he was satisfied that I had taken his scolding with all the seriousness it was due. I imagine he'll be back later, either for a follow-up lecture or some quality stare-down time.
