If my garden growing and a farmer's market shopping hasn't given you the hint, I'll just say outright that I am fast becoming a convert to the locavore ideal - eating food that is grown as close to home as possible.
I regularly attend meetings of the Food Not Lawns group, which aims to educate Springfield residents on how to grow their own food, brew their own wine and beer, raise their own chickens, and generally live in a way that is less destructive to the environment.
Also, I just finished reading Barbara Kingsolver's book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and am quite inspired to learn just exactly how all the food I eat grows. Did you know that a peanut seed sticks itself back into the ground? Or that modern domestic turkeys have forgotten how to mate? This book has also inspired me to grow everything I possibly can, although in an apartment this is a little tricky. I may have to wait for full scale localness until I get a house.
My latest find, however, is Kitchen Gardeners International. They are running a fundraiser/campaign to convince the next President of the United States to plant a garden on the White House lawn, as has been done by presidents in the long ago past. Watch the cute video about the White House lawn's past as a garden and a pasture, and help Eat the View!

I was inspired by one of your posts and I watched Pride and Prejudice last night for the first time. Don't be mad, but it was the Kiera Knightly version... I didn't have time to watch the mini-series.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that it was AMAZING. I can't wait to read the book... and watch the long version that you claim is even better.
Yes, yes, read the book, watch the A&E version. They are so so so much millions times better than the Kiera Knightly version. I love Jane Austen.
