seven on the line

I've mentioned before how our back porch and the bowl of compost on it are a gathering place for the neighborhood tiger slugs. Well last week, it seems like they all called their friends and came out for one last party before the cold set in. We had seven of them come calling all at once. I accidentally stepped on one who had crawled up onto the carpet welcome mat just outside the door, but luckily it (and he) was cushy enough not to cause damage. There was also one on the screen door. The rest were milling about on the floor.

Sam gathered them all up so we could photograph them all together. And here they are - seven beautiful slugs on a broom handle. I hope they come back next year too.
