La Crosse is divided into two sections - north and south. The dividing line is the La Crosse River which creates a marshy area right in the middle of the city. There are only two roads that cross it, and consequently, they are always busy.
Sam and I live in south La Crosse, which is where downtown, the universities, and most of the entertainment is. Pearl Street Brewery, the local brewery, is in the north. We headed up there with some friends on Saturday night for their Winter Ball, and it was great fun. For $15, we got three (or four) of their hand crafted beers, a small buffet and some live music. We also met some new friends and learned the true meaning of patience while in line for the bathroom.
And then we walked home. You know, driving really skews your perception of distance. It seemed like a really far way away on the ride up, but it only took us 40 minutes to walk home. That's less than 3 miles for sure! This summer is going to be great, because although La Crosse seems big, on a bicycle, it's going to be very easy to get around.
