Some new friends of ours just opened a new coffee shop/music venue/art space called The Root Note in downtown La Crosse. This past week they were frantically trying to finish up everything in time for their "soft" opening on Friday night. Being unemployed, I volunteered my time to help paint, organize, and clean whatever they needed. Now my arms are sore from scrubbing and mopping.
It was pretty amazing to see how quickly everything got put together and how the space transformed over the span of one week. It was lovely when it was finished, and I think Friday night was pretty successful. My favorite band was the first one, Soap, a jam band who played an awesome Nintendo medley and ended with a barber shop quartet of Family Guy's Vasectomy Song. Hilarious.
It seems that The Root Note will be pretty successful in the long run and will definitely be a new hang out for Sam and me. If you're ever there, check out the toilet paper holders. I helped install those. I'm proud of my contribution.
