kinfolk

From Reiser

It took me long enough, but I finally got all my old relatives' photos scanned in and labeled. It was great fun discovering the threads of relations back into the early 1800s, and seeing how they looked - mostly stern and severe, it seems. Did smiling in photos not come into fashion until the late 20th century? If you want to see how I got my good looks, feel free to browse my relations by clicking on the photo above. It should take you to one of the three albums of my kin.

From what I understand, cameras took a long time to capture an image. As such, the subjects would be standing in pose for literally dozens of minutes. Not too fun to smile for 15 minutes straight.

That's an awesome project!! I have done a lot of research on my dad's mother's side of the family. I started a wiki to make a collection of photos and stories and organize everything: lospolin.pbwiki.com
I completely appreciate how long this stuff *actually* takes. Luckily I've been able to find relatives in California, Mexico, and the Netherlands who have helped me gather info, and update the site. And now that it's online, lots of other people search for it and contact me with extra info. :) I love the internets.

Eventually (as in, sometime during my life) I'd like to gather the same amount of info about the rest of my family. For example, I have no idea if your photos are from the Meyer side or not... I don't know anything about grandma and grandpa's ancestors.

Would you be interested in working together to get all the info we can on that, and to make digital copies of stuff? (This would be a project I might start a few months or a few years from now.)

P.S. I met some people who were in town for a conference. The said they were from La Crosse, and I was very excited.
