I stopped into the New Haven library for a few minutes on my way to visit my grandparents. I wandered over to the magazines where an old man was sitting comfortably with a blanket over his lap. He glanced up from his reading material when I walked by, and when I sat down nearby with my magazine, he spoke up.
"You have magnificent hair," he said. I thanked him, and he continued. "My mother had long hair like yours, and she would wrap it up all on top of her head."
"I can't quite get it on top of my head, but I can put it in a bun," I replied, and proceeded to do so. He watched me as I twisted it up and broke into a huge smile when I'd finished.
"That's how she'd do it! That's magnificent!"
I do enjoy making someone's day just by having long hair.

A man in the magazine section with a blanket over his lap. I was afraid this story was going somewhere else.
