tally ho!

I know that writing about work is a no-no, but I thought I'd share a little information gathering I did this week. I wondered what was the percentage of people who bring their own bags versus those who don't. I collected data at my register for four days during four different shifts, tallying those who brought their own bags, those who used the co-op bags, and those who did not use bags at all.

Day 1:
Co-op bags - 76 (40%)
Own bags - 45 (24%)
No bags - 67 (36%)

Day 2:
Co-op bags - 65 (44%)
Own bags - 33 (22%)
No bags - 49 (34%)

Day 3:
Co-op bags - 77 (50%)
Own bags - 40 (26%)
No bags - 38 (24%)

Day 4:
Co-op bags - 72 (43%)
Own bags - 34 (20%)
No bags - 61 (37%)

Using this information, I un-mathematically extrapolate that approximately 25% of co-op patrons use reusable bags. That's not horrible. I wish it were a little more, but we're doing pretty well, I think.

Another way of looking at it: fewer than 50% use co-op bags. That's a good thing.
