fun with teas

I am a tea drinker. I have over 20 different kinds of loose-leaf tea, plus some Traditional Medicinals in bags. I drink several cups of tea a day.

At some point many years ago, someone introduced me to the coffee shop chai latte, and I have loved it ever since. But it is so expensive compared to other teas. And then I found a lovely recipe for making my own chai in Delicious Living. I went out and bought all the spices (in bulk, it cost me about $2). Now I make my own masala chai all the time.

In case you'd like to try, here's the recipe.

1/2 cup milk (any kind you prefer)
1 cup water
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons black tea, such as Darjeeling
1/4 teaspoon spice mix (equal parts ground ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, star anise)

Place milk, water, and sugar in a medium pot. Boil for 30 seconds, and add black tea and spice mix. Turn off heat. Steep for 5 minutesa and strain.

*When I first found this recipe, I didn't have cardamom, cloves, or anise. I tried it anyway, and it wasn't bad. So, if you're in a rush or don't want to buy the other spices, it works minimized too, I think.

Hello- great blog. My husband owns and operates an on-line loose leaf tea company www.drinktheleaf.com. We are fans of all teas, and I am especially fond of chai. Best, wifeofateadrinker.blogspot.com
