I have found my new favorite place in La Crosse. It is The Rivoli, an amazing old theatre that stays in business playing non-new movie releases. When I first saw it from the outside, I thought it was going to be just an old, run down movie theatre, but that is not the case.
The website says "stadium seating since 1922" and that is definitely the atmosphere you get. The upper half of the auditorium is seating in chairs that probably have not been refurbished since 1922. The lower half is table seating, so that you can enjoy the full pizza menu or just some popcorn, soda, or beer along with your movie. In front of that is a great black and white checkerboard dance floor just below the screen. (Sam and I thought it would be great for Rocky Horror.) The walls are decorated to look like a castle, including two staircases for poignant lovers' scenes. It's awesome.
In addition to the main auditorium, they also have a screening room, but I didn't get to go in because another movie was playing. I'll make sure to see it when I go back.
And they're hiring...maybe I'll try to get a job there.
