My choir, the La Crosse Chamber Chorale, has three concerts this week/weekend.
Tuesday we participate in the UW-L New Music Festival. We'll be singing five pieces that were commissioned as part of the Words to Music Program, in which local middle school students write poems and local composers turn the poetry into a choral piece with accompaniment by at least one non-piano instrument.
The theme is "Magic" and we have everything from fireflies to abracadabra, and from bassoon to accordion. Harry Potter even makes an appearance.
These pieces will be reprised along with other famous words set to music, like "Father Williams" from Alice in Wonderland and several quotes from Shakespeare, in our fall concerts on Saturday and Sunday. If you're in town and looking for something to do, you might enjoy stopping by.
